Total Solar Eclipse 2027
Total Solar Eclipse 2027
A private photographic experience on the Costa del Sol
At a glance
About the expedition
Organising the most important total solar eclipse of the next ten years has not been easy. Finding accommodation and truly qualified professionals to experience and photograph it has become especially difficult, and hotel services have become incredibly expensive. Even so, we have achieved a balance of quality that allows us to offer this experience without compromising on the essentials.
Following the great success we have had organising total solar eclipses, at Zero Expeditions we approach this eclipse differently. It is not simply about reaching a location, setting up a tripod and waiting. It is about preparing every detail, knowing the terrain, testing the equipment and being clear about what we want to achieve when totality arrives. Our base will be a private luxury villa in Marbella, with a small group of participants and a programme combining technical preparation, astrophotography, Mediterranean landscapes and some of the most remarkable scenery in Andalusia. Eduardo Marcos Quevedo, a specialist in this type of photography with extensive experience leading groups of photographers, will accompany us on this experience.

Everyone departing from Madrid or a nearby meeting point will travel with Eduardo in the two 9-seater vans assigned to the event. Arrival on the Costa del Sol and transfer to our private luxury villa in Marbella, which will be our home for the next few days. After settling in, there will be time to rest and begin preparing for one of the most important moments of the trip. The first afternoon will be dedicated to a complete photographic equipment check: cameras, telephoto lenses, solar filters, tripods, remote releases, intervalometers, batteries, memory cards and backup systems. We will also hold a technical session covering the different photographic possibilities during the eclipse, shooting sequences and recommended camera settings. When totality arrives, we want the technical side to be already under control. We will also head out for a sunset photo outing to warm up!

The morning will be dedicated to a full rehearsal of the following day's eclipse session. We will set up the cameras exactly as we intend to use them during the eclipse and check solar filters, focus, exposure, focal lengths, intervalometers, automated sequences, batteries, memory cards, backup systems and tripod stability. We will then return to the villa for lunch, rest, battery charging and landscape equipment preparation. In the afternoon we will completely change register and hold a photographic session in the Mediterranean surroundings of Marbella, working with the relationship between sea, coastline, architecture and sunset light. We will arrive with enough time to study compositions and will work with different focal lengths through sunset and the first minutes of blue hour. In the evening we will return to the villa for dinner and the final preparation of the equipment for the eclipse. This activity may be replaced by a boat trip along the coast or a visit to Ronda or Ojén, always with camera in hand and agreed with the whole group.

We will wake early and leave with plenty of time to reach our selected location in Cádiz province. The plan will take into account the exceptional traffic expected around the eclipse, so we will work with a substantial safety margin. We will arrive with enough time to set up the equipment, check everything and be ready well before the most important phases begin. The morning will be dedicated entirely to the total solar eclipse. We will follow its progression from the first partial phases through to totality. The preparation from the previous day will allow us to concentrate on executing the planned sequence while also leaving a few moments to simply look up and experience the phenomenon. The selected location is expected to provide approximately 4 minutes and 10 seconds of totality. Once the eclipse is over, we will complete the sequence, dismantle the equipment and have lunch in the area. We will then begin our journey back towards Marbella. Before reaching Marbella, we will stop at El Torcal de Antequera, one of the most extraordinary geological landscapes in Andalusia. We will photograph its limestone formations during the final hours of daylight, working with wide-angle lenses, telephoto lenses and minimalist compositions. We will then return to our private villa in Marbella.

Our final day will begin early. We will head out for one last photographic session to photograph sunrise over the Marbella coast. It will be our farewell to the Mediterranean after several intense days and one final opportunity to work with light and landscape. We will then return to the villa for a relaxed breakfast. After breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, with a return to Madrid for those who need it.

View profileFrequently asked questions
Do I need previous astrophotography experience?
No. The experience is designed for different levels of knowledge and experience. Before the eclipse, we will review your equipment setup and explain the shooting procedure.
What photographic equipment do I need?
As a basic setup, we recommend a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls, a telephoto lens of approximately 200–600 mm, a stable tripod, a proper solar filter for photography, a wide-angle lens, spare batteries and memory cards. A remote shutter release is also recommended.
Can I bring more advanced equipment?
Yes. A second camera body, different telephoto lenses, an intervalometer, fast wide-angle lenses, a star tracker, equatorial mount or an astronomical telescope adapted for solar photography can expand the photographic possibilities, but none of these are essential.
Why do we rehearse the eclipse the day before?
Because during totality we want to minimise technical decisions. The rehearsal allows us to check focus, exposure, filters, focal lengths, sequences, intervalometers and equipment stability before the decisive moment.
How many people will participate?
The group will be limited to a maximum of 10 participants to maintain a carefully designed photographic experience and close support.
Where will we stay?
Our base for the experience will be a private luxury villa in Marbella.
