A destination designed for those who understand photography as a way of observing, connecting and preserving. The Pantanal is the place on Earth with the highest density of wild jaguars, and July is the optimal month to photograph them.
The largest tropical wetland on the planet. Photographic boat safari in search of the jaguar.
Overview
In July, the river level turns the banks of the Pantanal into one of the best stages in the world for jaguar observation. The big cats use the river margins as natural movement and hunting routes, which significantly increases the chances of encounters. During these days of navigation it is common to observe and photograph many different individuals.
Between sightings, the Pantanal reveals all its natural richness: giant otters patrolling the river, caimans basking on the banks, and an extraordinary diversity of waterbirds accompanying every journey. We will run photographic boat safaris designed to maximise wildlife photography opportunities, with lunch on board included to make the most of every day on the river.
The Brazilian Pantanal is home to the largest population of free-ranging jaguars on the planet, estimated at over 4,000 individuals. Unlike other regions of the Americas, here the jaguar does not hide: the abundance of prey and the low human pressure have produced animals with a low fear response, which move in broad daylight along the riverbanks. The northern sector — where the lodge is located — has the highest known density. Jaguars hold defined territories and relatively predictable habits; the guides know many individuals by name, turning every outing into something close to a personal encounter.
Accommodation
Pousada Berço Pantaneiro is a lodge located in Porto Jofre, at the end of the Transpantaneira, in the northern Brazilian Pantanal. It offers comfortable, functional full-board accommodation, with rooms featuring private bathroom and air conditioning. It is a strategic base for boat expeditions along the rivers of the region.
Optional activities*
- Ocelot hide: Possibility of doing a photographic ocelot hide if the animal is active in the area during the days of the expedition.
- Giant Anteater photography: Subject to animal visibility during the season. An exceptional opportunity if conditions allow.
