Overview

Why Tromsø + Lofoten for auroras

Tromsø sits under the auroral oval. It offers one of the best chances on Earth to see the Northern Lights. Perfect latitude, solid forecasts and quick access to nearby islands and viewpoints mean we can chase clear skies within minutes.

Lofoten is the plan B that’s also plan A. When weather turns, Lofoten still delivers: beaches like Haukland/Uttakleiv, red cabins, cliffs and fjords work beautifully with clouds, wind or snow—great for long exposures, textures and minimalism.A privileged corridor. Covering Tromsø and Lofoten gives us distinct microclimates. We pick the best spot each night to maximize probability. No one can promise auroras—but we maximize your odds and ensure you return with a strong portfolio either way.

Rest & sleep (flexible)

Goal: keep 7–8 h sleep without missing sunsets or prime aurora windows.

Base rules

  • Standard quiet hours: 01:30–08:30.
  • Daily nap: 13:00–15:00 (60–120 min).
  • Travel days (Mon/Thu): shortened aurora window; lights out 00:30.
  • Early dinner, hydration, earplugs/eye mask recommended.

Extended-Aurora Protocol (if the show runs late):

  • End ≤ 01:30 → normal day (optional sunrise) + 13:00–15:00 nap.
  • End 01:30–03:00rest 03:00–11:00, brunch 11:30–12:00, outing 12:30–16:45, short night 21:30–00:30.
  • End > 03:00rest 03:30–12:30, brunch 13:00, soft afternoon 14:00–16:30, no sunrise and very short night 22:00–23:59 (only with excellent forecast).
  • Exception on travel days (Mon/Thu): hard cut at 00:30.
  • If sunrise is skipped, we open a light optional walk 12:30–13:30 near the lodging.

Lodging

  • Lofoten – Leknes (3 nights): rorbu-style cabins by a fjord, with kitchen/living room and single beds—ideal for 7 photographers.
